Red Hartebeest

Overview
The red hartebeest is the most colorful of its species, with striking black markings and a white underside. It has a long, narrow face and distinctive, curved horns that both sexes possess—though males have thicker, heavier horns for fighting.

Males weigh around 150 kg, females about 120 kg, and they stand roughly 135 cm at the shoulder. These antelope can live up to 19 years. Despite their poor eyesight, they have an excellent sense of smell and hearing. When threatened, they sprint up to 55 km/h in a zigzag pattern to evade predators.

Red hartebeests are social and usually found in herds of up to 30. Territorial bulls mark their range with dung piles and often stand on mounds to assert dominance.
